Short answer questions designed to help students review for the annual exam and that relate to all-important topics appearing in the Course and Exam Description

Topic 6.2 — Westward Expansion (Economic Development) Six questions that relate to the effect of westward expansion on business, labor, and industry between the end of the Civil War and the start of the Spanish American War.

Topic 6.3 — Westward Expansion (Social and Cultural Development) Five questions that relate to American values, customs, beliefs, practices, traditions, and ideals found in most rural and boomtown areas of the West between the end of the Civil War and the start of the Spanish American War.

Topic 6.5 — Technological Innovation Five questions that relate to the creation, development, and implementation of new products between 1865–1898

Topic 6.6 — The Rise of Industrial Capitalism: Five questions that relate to rapid development of a factory system between 1865–1877.

Topic 6.7 — Labor in the Gilded Age: Twelve questions that relate to those who would engage in some kind of unskilled and often physically hard work for wages between 1870–1900.

Topic 6.8 — Immigration and Migration in the Gilded Age: Ten questions that relate to those who, between 1870–1900, came to live permanently in the United States, as well as those who, during the same time period, moved from one part of the country to another.

Topic 6.9 — Response to Immigration in the Gilded Age: Ten questions that relate to how Americans responded to those who came to live permanently in the United States between 1870–1900.

Topic 6.10 — Development of a Middle Class During the Gilded Age: Five questions that relate to the significant growth in the size of a class of Americans who, between 1870–1900, earned between two-thirds and double the median household income.

Topic 6.11 — Reform in the Gilded Age; Five questions that relate to various attempts to address the gender, racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic inequalities that abounded between 1870–1900.

Topic 6.12 — Controversies over the Role of Government in the Gilded Age: Eight questions that relate to the debate in America, between 1870–1900, over two questions: what should the government do to promote economic growth and how should it respond to an economic downturn.

Topic 6.13 — Politics in the Gilded Age: Ten questions that relate to government, political parties, and the rules and laws that existed between 1870–1900.
