Short answer questions designed to help students review for the annual exam and that relate to all-important topics appearing in the Course and Exam Description

Topic 5.2 — Manifest Destiny: Eleven short answer questions that relate to a widely-held 19th century American cultural belief justifying westward expansion.

Topic 5.3 — Mexican American War: Seven short answer questions that relate to an 1846–1848 conflict between the United States and Mexico.

Topic 5.4 — Compromise of 1850: Four short answer questions that relate to a package of five separate Congressional bills that defused a political confrontation between slave and free states on the status of territories acquired in the Mexican American War.

Topic 5.5 — Sectional Conflict: Seven short answer questions that relate to the serious and protracted argument over lifestyles, social structures, customs, and political values that took place in America in the years leading up to the Civil War.

Topic 5.7 — Election of 1860 and Secession: Four short answer questions that relate to the election that served as the main catalyst of the Civil War.

Topic 5.8 — Military Conflict in the Civil War: (work in progress)

Topic 5.9 — Government Policies During the Civil War: Six short answer questions that relate to the most significant rules and regulations that both the North and South put forward between 1861 and 1865.

Topic 5.10 — Reconstruction: Fifteen short answer questions that relate to the period of American history that lasted from 1865 to 1877 and marked a significant chapter in the history of civil rights in the United States.
